Production and materials: what we actually do

Because every footprint counts.

We are not fooling anyone. The production of fashion and lifestyle products comes with a consumption of resources as well as unwanted impacts on people and the environment. But Blusun does not shy away, but rather takes on its responsibility.

For us, this means questioning the ecological and social consequences of what we do and working step by step to further develop our products and processes.

We work every day to keep unwanted consequences as low as possible. We know that our shoes also have an ecological footprint. That is why we would rather show you specifically what we do than make big promises.

What we do.

We rely on many individual measures, large and small, in production, material selection and shipping.
Our main measures (as of September 26):

• Quality: We develop our barefoot shoes with the aim that they accompany you for as long as possible. Timeless design and high-quality workmanship are part of that.
• Short supply chains: The manufacturing of our soles takes place in Pirmasens and the complete shoe is produced in Portugal.
• Materials: Our leather is a by-product of the food industry. We also use cotton, wool and vegan materials from European supply chains.
• Certified partners: Our leather is processed in tanneries registered with the Leather Working Group. For vegan materials, we look for OEKO-TEX certified components.
• Solar power: Some of our production partners already operate using their own solar energy.
• Socially fair production: Our shoes are made in specialised family businesses in Portugal that we visit in person on a regular basis.
• Plastic-free: Our shoes arrive in boxes made from recycled materials and we also avoid plastic wherever possible.
