What is suede leather?

Suede is a soft, supple leather with a velvety texture that feels warm and cozy to the touch. The name comes from the French term “Gant de Suéde,” which translates to “Swedish gloves,” referring to the traditional soft suede gloves from Sweden.

Suede isn’t just known for its luxurious feel—it’s also incredibly versatile. Lightweight and flexible, it adapts beautifully to various designs and demands, all while maintaining its elegant appearance and natural charm.

Is suede leather waterproof?

The suede used in our barefoot shoes is perfect for autumn and winter conditions. Through a special treatment process, this durable and naturally warm material is given a highly water-repellent surface. As a result, our suede barefoot shoes don’t need additional waterproofing to stand up to wind and rain.

Our suede is sustainably and fairly produced in Germany by a renowned tannery.

The German-made suede upper reliably keeps moisture out without the need for additional waterproofing.

The interior lining and removable insole, made from 100% Iberian wool, keep your feet warm and cozy. This wool comes from free-range, mulesing-free sheep. Besides its insulating properties, wool is also naturally breathable and antibacterial.
