We are BLUSUN shoes
Feel It In Your Step. Feel It In Yourself.
We are Silvia Brindlmayer and Dirk Pfeffer – founders of BLUSUN. We create barefoot shoes that feel natural but don’t look like it. Our goal: shoes that provide the barefoot feeling – while looking just like regular, stylish shoes.
The brand name BLUSUN is inspired by the Italian expression “sole azzurro” – radiant sun, blue sky. The combination of “Blu” (Italian for blue) and “Sun” (English for sun) stands for the harmony between natural lightness and timeless elegance – a feeling that is reflected in every one of our barefoot shoe collections.
And that’s exactly the feeling we want to share with you in every pair of shoes.
"Good design is always sustainable."

Who We Are
We bring our individual strengths into every pair of BLUSUN shoes. Silvia designs our barefoot shoes with great attention to detail and a clear sense of form and function. Dirk takes care of sales and communication with you, our customers.
Together, we lead BLUSUN – and share the responsibility for brand identity and production. We accompany each model from the first idea to the final delivery, maintaining close contact with the people who craft our shoes – in a spirit of partnership, personally, and with a shared commitment to quality and fairness.
"Barefoot shoes are a way of life."

Sustainable Shoe Production In Portugal – Fair And Transparent Processes
Our shoes are made in small, specialized workshops – exclusively in Portugal. We maintain close, personal partnerships with our production partners and suppliers in Portugal, Germany, and Italy. We’re in regular contact, frequently on-site, and place great value on trust, transparency, and genuine collaboration on equal terms.
In Portugal, each pair is crafted with experience, precision, and a great deal of manual work – under fair conditions and with respect for people and the environment. Our factory already uses its own solar energy and operates with short, resource-efficient supply chains. Our tanneries are certified, strictly follow European regulations, and completely avoid the use of heavy metals – including Chromium VI. The outsoles are manufactured in Germany and Portugal.
Sustainability should never be an extra. It must become a natural part of everyday life – in every decision, big or small. We don’t claim to be a fully sustainable company, but we are constantly working to question and improve our processes.
To us, sustainability also means creating high-quality, durable shoes that bring joy and can be worn for many years. Our goal is clear: to act as environmentally conscious, transparent, and fair as possible.
It’s not just the material that counts, but also the craftsmanship and lifespan of a product. A well-made shoe that accompanies you for years is just as sustainable to us as any ecological certification.
We select our materials with the utmost care:
• The cotton we use is exclusively certified organic cotton
•The wool is either recycled or sourced from regional production in the Iberian region
•We deliberately avoid leather from third countries where working conditions are difficult to verify
•For vegan materials, we ensure a high proportion of recycled components whenever possible
We only use leather that is a byproduct of the food industry. This means: no animal is raised solely for its leather. Instead, an existing raw material is used meaningfully – conserving resources and supporting a closed-loop system. Our leather comes from Germany, Italy, and Portugal, is free from harmful substances, and is processed in tanneries that are at least registered with the Leather Working Group.
Our Vision
We make no compromises when it comes to comfort, style, or responsibility. For us, barefoot shoes are only truly good if they carry you reliably through everyday life, keep pace with your rhythm, last a long time – and feel so comfortable from the very first moment that you barely notice them and never want to take them off.
Those who wear BLUSUN barefoot shoes can feel the difference: more freedom with every step and a body sensation that feels truly natural.
