We are BLUSUN Barfoot Shoes
Your feet feel it. You feel it.
We are Silvia Brindlmayer and Dirk Pfeffer; the founders of BLUSUN. We develop barefoot shoes that feel natural, but do not look like classic barefoot shoes. Our ambition is to design shoes that allow freedom of movement and at the same time look timeless, modern, and suitable for everyday wear.
The name BLUSUN is inspired by the terms "Blu"; Italian for blue; and "Sun"; English for sun. For us, this combination stands for lightness, clarity, and a feeling of freedom. We want to pass on exactly this feeling with every pair of shoes.
"Good design is created when function, aesthetics, and quality are in harmony with each other."
Silvia Brindlmayer; Co-Founder / CEO
Who is behind BLUSUN
At BLUSUN, we combine different strengths and perspectives. Silvia develops our models with a clear eye for design, material, and fit. Dirk is responsible for sales and direct interaction with our customers.
Together, we accompany every model from the first draft to final production. In doing so, we maintain close contact with our international production partners and suppliers. Personal exchange, reliability, and a shared understanding of quality play a central role for us.
We are supported by a team of five as well as many external partners who help shape BLUSUN every day with their expertise, creativity, and commitment, making the brand what it is today.
"We wanted to develop barefoot shoes that you don't just wear because of the feel, but because you really want to wear them."
Dirk Pfeffer; Co-Founder / CEO
Production, materials and our standards
Our shoes are manufactured entirely in Portugal. There, they are made in specialized family businesses with extensive experience, artisanal know-how, and great care in production.
Short delivery routes within Europe are important to us. Therefore, we source many materials directly from Portugal. Materials that are not available there are imported from Germany, Italy, and Spain. When making our selection, we pay special attention to quality, workmanship, and traceable production standards.
We maintain regular personal contact with our production partners and suppliers and also visit them on site. This allows us to keep an eye on the processes and work together on improvements.
Some of our partners already operate using their own solar energy. We also value efficient delivery routes and durable materials. Our tanneries work according to European guidelines and follow recognized industry standards.
For us, responsibility begins with the product itself. That is why we develop barefoot shoes with the aim that they accompany you for as long as possible. Timeless design, high-quality workmanship, and a well-thought-out construction are just as important to us as a comfortable fit in everyday life.
When selecting our materials, we pay attention to quality, origin, and traceable standards. Among other things, we use cotton, wool, leather, and vegan materials from European supply chains with various certifications. Depending on the model, our wool consists of recycled fibers or comes from regional production within the Iberian region. For vegan materials, we also look for OEKO-TEX certified components.
For our leather, we use materials that occur as a by-product of the food industry. The leather comes from Portugal, Italy, and Germany and is processed in tanneries that are registered with the Leather Working Group.
We continuously question our processes and work step by step to further develop our products and procedures.
Our philosophy
For us, good barefoot shoes are created where freedom of movement, design, and quality come together. We develop barefoot shoes that reliably accompany you through everyday life, are comfortable to wear, and are designed so that you can enjoy them for a long time.
BLUSUN barefoot shoes should feel natural without compromising on a modern look suitable for everyday wear. Our goal is a walking experience that gives you more freedom with every step and feels uncomplicated and familiar from the very first moment.
