We are BLUSUN shoes
Your feet feel it. You feel it.
We are Silvia Brindlmayer and Dirk Pfeffer – founders of BLUSUN. We develop barefoot shoes that feel natural, but do not look like it. Our goal: shoes that enable the barefoot feeling – and still look like normal, stylish shoes.
The brand name BLUSUN is inspired by the Italian expression "sole azzurro" – shining sun, blue sky. The combination of "Blu" (Italian for blue) and "Sun" (English for sun) stands for the harmony between natural lightness and timeless elegance – a feeling that is reflected in each of our barefoot shoe collections.
And it is precisely this feeling we want to pass on to you with every pair of shoes
"Good design is always sustainable."

Who we are
We bring our different strengths into every pair of BLUSUN shoes. Silvia designs our barefoot shoes with great attention to detail and a clear eye for form and function. Dirk takes care of sales and the communication with you, our customers.
Together, we lead BLUSUN – and share the responsibility for the brand presence and production. We accompany each model from the first idea to the finished delivery and maintain close communication with the people who make our shoes – collaboratively, personally, and with a shared commitment to quality and fairness.
"barefoot shoes are a lifestyle."

Sustainable shoe production in Portugal – fair and transparent processes
Our shoes are produced in small, specialized workshops—exclusively in Portugal. We have a close, personal collaboration with our production partners and suppliers from Portugal, Germany, and Italy. We maintain regular communication, are often on-site, and place great importance on trust, transparency, and a genuine partnership at eye level.
In Portugal, each pair is crafted with experience, precision, and a lot of handwork—under fair conditions and with consideration for people and the environment. Our shoe factory already uses its own solar energy and works with short, resource-conserving supply chains. Our tanneries are also certified, adhere strictly to European regulations, and completely avoid the use of heavy metals—thus also avoiding Chromium VI. The outsoles are made in Germany and Portugal.
Sustainability should not be an extra. It must become a natural part of our everyday life— in every decision, whether big or small. We do not see ourselves as a fully sustainable company, but we continuously work to question and improve our processes.
For us, sustainability also means creating high-quality, durable shoes that bring joy and are wearable for many years. Our goal is clear: to act as environmentally conscious, transparent, and fair as possible.
This includes not only the material but also the workmanship and lifespan of a product. A well-made shoe that accompanies you for years is just as sustainable for us as an ecological certificate.
We choose our materials with the utmost care:
• The cotton used is exclusively certified organic cotton
• The wool is either recycled or comes from regional production in the Iberian region
• We consistently avoid leather from third countries where working conditions are difficult to verify
• For vegan materials, we aim for as high a proportion of recycled components as possible
We exclusively use leather that is a by-product of the food industry. This means: no animal is raised extra for this purpose. Instead, an existing raw material is used sensibly—resource-conservingly and in line with a closed cycle. Our leather comes from Germany, Italy, and Portugal, is free of pollutants, and is processed in tanneries that are registered with the Leather Working Group at a minimum.
Our Vision
We make no compromises when it comes to comfort, style, or responsibility. For us, barefoot shoes are truly good when they reliably carry you through everyday life, accompany you at your own pace, last long—and feel so comfortable from the first moment that you hardly feel them and would prefer never to take them off.
Those who wear barefoot shoes from BLUSUN feel the difference: more freedom with every step and a body feeling that is simply natural.
